A deliberate escapade from the SEO Wilds
(Well… This may be an exaggeration but the contrast in the first two titles made me laugh at least… but lets talk about it)
2025 is very thankfully in the rearview mirror and now we hope that things can only get better. I wanted to find a bit of space to write about my thoughts of the last year and what I want to try and do here in the new year.
In the last blog post I talked about how bad I am at the particulars of SEO, and how I was going to make a bit more of an effort here and that still stands. In addition to my SEO woes I find myself in the same camp as many others where I also get caught in the clear trappings of Social Media, and so, in 2026 I’ve been making an effort to rectify this too.
I’ve already had my gentle ribbing for loudly announcing I’m leaving the party on said accounts but I do think it was important to do so for several reasons. For many we have spent nearly two decades on these platforms and you gather a lot of friends in that time and so I wanted a chance to bring them along with me and not lose touch, but more importantly I think it’s a statement of accountability, and hopefully something that could resonate with others. It’s not lost on me that I surely will be back there one day, and even in my absence from it, I still have to maintain a way to post out to it regardless of my ability to view it. I'm hoping an escape from it, no matter how temporary, will be beneficial for a myriad of reasons and if that is the case with no significant downside then why not share that loudly.
It’s been a few months into 2026 now and in one way or another I’ve been more active creatively than I ever have been previously. I’m not sure if or how there could be any correlation on how leaving a social media platform lead to me receiving more work but I sure am glad of the surprise! The tool I ended up using to keep my social media apps fed whilst I'm avoiding them was an app called ‘Buffer’. Although its not without its hitches it has given me exactly what I was after and so ill report back on it more completely a few months down the line.
