Games
Here are some of my own independently made videogame projects. Some are smaller experimental or game jam games. I have experience in a variety of engines but these are made in a mix of Game Maker Studio 1 + 2 and Chris Maltby’s Game Boy Studio.
Deadeus - Game Boy - 2019
My most successful game to date. An authentic horror Gameboy game developed using Chris Maltby’s GB Studio engine, Featuring music by Stuart Busby.
The game centers around a small boy who has a prophetic nightmare telling him everyone will die in 3 days and that he has to investigate his village to see how he can save them, if at all.
The game has 11 endings and no direct path leaving it up to the player to decide which is the best course of action.
Severen (Demo) - Game Boy - 2022
An unfinished game jam game and my next Game Boy game after Deadeus. This time I wanted to make a platformer that was heavily inspired by my favourite Game Boy game, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins.
The game centers around a fallen king who would be able to adapt his body by combining with monsters to overcome challenges. Whilst making this game for the original Game Boy I realised it was far to ambitious and possibly untenable and so the project was shelved.
PettaPuggo - PC - 2019
Made as part of a game jam, PettaPuggo is entirely based around a concept a friend made the misfortune of informing me of. Pugs have a tendency to eject their eyes from their silly little skulls should they get too excited, and so, the game is about balancing the act of petting your Puggo and squishing their eyes back into their skull.
I constantly think about revisiting this game and remaking it for either Mobile or Game Boy.
Sisyphus Chikkin’ - PC - 2020
Made in about 6 hours in Game Maker Studio. Back when I was first learning how to make games I really loved the challenge of trying to make a game in a short period of time and so, one night after work, I wanted to see if I could leave the office and have a new game on Itch by the time I came back in. That game was Sisyphus Chikkin’
I was told if you slap a chicken 20,000+ times quickly enough you will cook it enough to eat. So why not make a game about testing that theory?
The Chicken Slaps in this game were made by me slapping my then very fat belly into a microphone for foley.
Super Regular Piano - PC - 2019
Another jam game made in Game Maker Studio. Partly this was me just trying to see if I could make a working piano but I eventually wanted to make it so that the piano was the controller for the game. The whole Idea was a little ambitious for the short time of the jam but I’m happy with what I achieved here.
A fun fact is that, so inexperienced was I at this time, rather than finding a sound bank for the piano sounds I just mic’d up my own mini piano and recorded an octave into my PC and spliced up the sounds for the game.…
Gata’ Toucha - PC - 2019
The first ‘real’ game I ever made. Made in Game Maker Studio for the 64x64 Jam and incredibly clearly inspired by Hotline Miami. This was me really working out how to code and make a game over a weekend and whilst it’s definitely debatable on if the game even works at all I had a lot of fun making it and it really opened the door to all the other games you see on this page. This is another project I always think about returning to.
